via Stay22About this place Paraportiani Church
Paraportiani Church stands as both an architectural landmark and the heart of Mykonos's gay cruising scene. Located in Kastro-Paralia within Mykonos Town, this 800-year-old Greek church is genuinely spectacular, drawing visitors who appreciate its historical significance alongside those exploring the area's social atmosphere. The venue occupies a central position in the town's street layout, with the surrounding squares and narrow streets forming the natural gathering spaces. Late evening is when the cruising activity picks up, with visitors exploring the charming alleyways and squares in the immediate vicinity. Much of the action gravitates toward the rocks along the waterfront, which form part of the area's natural geography. This setting creates an atmospheric experience, especially given the historic character of the surroundings. However, it's worth noting that the rocky terrain can be slippery, so practical footwear and careful footing are recommended, particularly in low light conditions. As a cruising area, this venue offers a more social and spontaneous experience compared to formal gay venues. The integration of the church and its surrounding neighborhood means the atmosphere blends history, architecture, and community in a distinctly Mykonos way. Visitors should approach with respect for the religious and cultural significance of the location while enjoying the social connections the area facilitates.

The Panagia Paraportiani Church in Mykonos is a beautiful example of traditional Greek architecture whitewashed, simple, and very photogenic. Unfortunately, it was closed when we visited, so we couldn’t see the interior. The surrounding area was charming but could have been better maintained.
Located at one edge of mykonos, next to the old ruins of the castle, is this small beautiful church. Magical and very romantic.. came almost sunset, enjoyed the beautiful view as well..
Maybe I should read more history to get to know this church.
Nice attraction to visit in Mykonos . Tickets cost 2 Euros. They have small museums upstairs. Small church gift shop right side from entrance. The village itself is nice and it has nice coffee shops and restaurants. There is also good gift shop close by in the village for souvenirs.
Very nice little church sitting at the edge with space around it. There is also a very nice corner where you can climb down a bit to reach some rocks if you want to take very nice pictures with the sea as your only background. When we were there, we saw smashed glass bottles and some other trash, so junkies or homeless people might have been there.
