Bangkok's gay sauna scene is one of Asia's best-developed. They're well-run, affordable, and mostly in the Silom district. Many stay open late, blending Thai massage traditions with modern spa facilities.
Babylon Bangkok
Babylon sets the standard for gay saunas in Bangkok, maybe even Southeast Asia. It's a resort-sized place in Sathorn with a dry sauna, steam room, big jacuzzi, an outdoor pool with sun loungers, and a gym. You can stay overnight in its private guest rooms, "The Barracks."
The massage pavilion does traditional Thai massage, and the restaurant serves both Thai and Western food. Tootsie Terrace bar has rooftop views of the Bangkok skyline. Babylon lets in anyone over 18, no matter their orientation. It feels genuinely resort-like and social, as much a destination as a bathhouse.
Chakran Sauna
This multi-floor spot is near Ari BTS station, a bit north of the main gay area in Silom. On the entrance floor, there's a restaurant and bar. Upstairs, you'll find sauna and steam rooms, private cabins, a darkroom, and a maze. The V Club, on the top floor, has a whirlpool jacuzzi, plunge pool, sundeck, and a rooftop garden. That top floor feels like a real step up.
Weekend theme nights include foam parties and underwear nights. The management really cares about cleanliness and good service, and it shows in what people say about the place.
R3 Sauna (formerly Ratchada Sauna)
Six modern floors in Ratchada, further from the Silom gay strip but easy to get to by BTS and MRT. It's got a sleek design, saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzis, and private cabins. They do regular themed events, with No Towel Night being the most popular. It's men-only and respectful.
Farose Sauna
A local favorite that brings in a real mix of Thai regulars and international visitors. People often mention its "come-as-you-are" atmosphere—it's less polished than Chakran or R3, but feels more genuinely social. Theme party nights run all week.
Silom: Bangkok's Gay District
Silom, especially Silom Soi 2 and Soi 4, is where Bangkok's gay nightlife happens. Bars open around 9pm, get busy by 11pm, and many stay open past 2am. DJ Station (a big gay club on Soi 2) and the bars along Soi 4 (Balcony, Telephone, The Stranger) are the main draws.
Silom Road itself connects to Sala Daeng BTS station and Si Lom MRT station, making it easy to get there from anywhere in the city.
Practical Tips
- Most saunas give you a towel, locker, and slippers when you walk in. Bring your own flip-flops if you prefer.
- Entry prices are cheap by European standards (200–500 THB); private rooms and other services cost extra.
- Thursday through Sunday are the best nights at most places.
- Grab food at one of the Silom night markets before hitting the bars. The food scene is very different from Europe.
- Apps like Grindr and Scruff are popular in Bangkok and can tell you which venues are busy.
