Om Bar Room is the successor and continuation of Madame Om ? one of the most iconic names in Beirut's LGBTQ+ bar scene, a venue whose reputation spans the city's golden years of the early 2010s through the crises that followed. The bar has reopened in a new location on the main street of the Mar Mikhael district, the neighbourhood that remains the geographic heart of whatever survives of Beirut's alternative and LGBTQ+-friendly social life. Open daily from 5pm ? an unusually democratic and accessible schedule for a city where nightlife venues often only open late ? it serves a mixed LGBTQ+ and LGBTQ+-friendly clientele with R&B and Arabic music programming. The early evening opening makes it a natural gathering point for pre-dinner drinks and early evening socialising. Mar Mikhael, partially recovered from the devastating August 2020 port explosion that caused massive damage to the neighbourhood, has maintained its character as Beirut's most alternative and arts-oriented district.
