Blackpool's gay scene is built on this tradition: working-class, Northern, entertainment-focused, and operating on Bank Holiday schedules when the town fills with visitors from Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and beyond. The Flamingo's drag shows are the best illustration of what Blackpool offers that Brighton or London do not: a specific Northern gay entertainment culture with its roots in the 1970s and 1980s club scene.
