Was just there on a Sunday evening with wife and 3 kids. The specialty drinks are good and priced accordingly. The food are large portions. I had the braised Ox-tail, it was decent but I had better seasoning at other places. My wife had the 3 lb. stuffed (with small shrimp) lobster, for $70 it was not worth it. They over cooked it. For the price she should of had better. The music in the restaurant was too loud for conversation. The service was great, along with the decor. Valet parking was a plus at no charge. 20% tip for a party of four was a first for me but not a problem. Would not return only because I like a different atmosphere.
We have frequented this location often. the food is good, the portions are HUGE, each entree is good for up to 4 people (literally). We often have a picture of Sangria (white) delicious ($40). the appetizers are good, but too much fried foods. What awesome is the snapper, stuffed lobster (usually only a special), the pork (depending on the chef for that night) the thing is they turn tables too fast - which takes away from the dining experience.
I organized a private cooking party at Don Coqui. Overall we enjoyed the food and we found the staff we worked with directly to be very friendly and helpful. The problem was the noise from the graduation party in the next room - it was extremely loud - more like a bar/club. We asked several times for the volume to be turned down but nothing was done about it. One of the main reasons I wanted to have a private cooking party was to avoid the yelling you need to do in bars and that is exactly what happened. Also, we weren't able to hear the chef so there was not much information or instruction which most of the group was looking forward to. We did enjoy the meal which was very tasty. although there was a change to the fish course (fried instead of pan-roasted) and the salad was not complete at the time we ate (one of the sous chefs finished it while we started). I think if we could have heard the chef and each other this would have greatly raised the quality of the experience. The manager mentioned to my husband that he would try to do something for us considering the situation but we never heard anything further. I also sent two emails to the event coordinator and didn't receive a response. Needless to say, we won't be going back.
My wife and I went here last year. I do have to say it was a wonderful exprience. Food was excellent and with very large portions. The wait staff was very professional and tended to our needs perfectly. While the Host was sitting another couple, he must of overheard me say to my wife that I wondered what the score of the Giant game was. A few minutes later he came over and gave me an update on the game. Wonderful service. Will be back time and time again!!
Our visit on 3/21/2014 was horrible! The staff was unfriendly, rushing to get us in and out! The DJ played no latin music. The bathrooms are filthy, urine all over the floor! The place needs a makeover asap both for decor and management. The drinks were watered down and the food was bland. I'm appalled that any one would give this place a good rating! Where have they been eating??? What a waste of time and money!
