Palermo, Italy
Palermo Pride marches through one of the world's most extraordinary urban environments: Arab-Norman Baroque streets where 12th-century Norman palaces sit next to medieval mosques and Baroque churches in a layering of civilisations found nowhere else in Europe. The event is organised by Arcigay Palermo and typically held in July, when the summer heat is mitigated by the march's evening timing. Expected attendance: 10,000–20,000. Palermo Pride has a particularly political character reflecting the challenges of LGBTQ+ visibility in the Sicilian south.
Przewodnik podróży
Wszystko, co warto wiedzieć przed wyjazdem.
Palermo is Sicily's capital and the largest city in the south of Italy with an established LGBTQ+ scene. The city's character — Arab-Norman architecture, intense Baroque churches, street markets and extraordinary food culture — creates a backdrop unlike anywhere in northern Italy. The gay scene is small and concentrated in the centro storico near the Vucciria and Ballarò markets. Palermo Pride in July is a genuinely political event, reflecting the south's different relationship to LGBTQ+ visibility. The social environment requires more discretion than Milan or Rome.
