Ibiza accommodation in peak season (July-August) is among the most expensive in Europe. This is not an exaggeration or a warning that applies only to luxury properties; a functional mid-range hotel room in Ibiza Town in August costs what a very good hotel room in Barcelona or Madrid costs. The island's popularity with international tourists, combined with limited accommodation supply and concentrated demand, produces prices that shock first-time visitors who have not been briefed.

Ibiza Town

Ibiza Town is the better base for gay visitors primarily interested in the gay-specific scene. Accommodation in the town ranges from small guesthouses in the old town (Dalt Vila) to mid-range hotels near the port, to a handful of boutique properties. The old town properties are atmospheric and well-located for walking to gay venues, but can be noisy at night given the proximity to the nightlife areas. Booking four to six months ahead for July and August is sensible; the better properties sell out earlier.

San Antonio

San Antonio has more budget and mid-range accommodation than Ibiza Town and is generally cheaper. It is better for visitors who plan to spend most of their time at mainstream clubs rather than specifically gay venues. The resort character of San Antonio is broader-tourist-market oriented. Travelling to Ibiza Town for gay venues from San Antonio requires a taxi at night, which is fine but adds up across a week.

Rural villas and fincas

The island's interior has a significant supply of rural villas and converted farmhouses (fincas) that are rented by the week. These are popular with groups who want a private pool and more space than a hotel room, and who use taxis or rental cars to reach the clubs at night. This is a legitimate and popular way to experience Ibiza; it removes you from the town centres but gives you a different quality of stay.

Cost management

June and September are meaningfully cheaper than July and August while still having the season fully operational. If cost is a constraint, these shoulder months give you a functional Ibiza experience at significantly lower accommodation prices. Late May is cheaper still, though some venues have not yet opened fully. October sees rapid deflation in prices as the season closes and many visitors leave, but the club scene has wound down by then.

Practical notes

Book far in advance for July and August. Check whether your accommodation is air-conditioned; Ibiza in August is hot and a room without air conditioning is not pleasant to sleep in. For the broader Ibiza picture, see the Gay Ibiza Guide.
