The Antwerp Queer Arts Festival is one of Belgium's most significant LGBTQ+ cultural events — an annual programme of exhibitions, performances, film screenings, and events spread across Antwerp's museums, galleries, and cultural venues that runs in conjunction with Antwerp Pride in August. The festival engages with queer identity through visual art, theatre, dance, film, and photography, at a level of curatorial seriousness that distinguishes it from the cultural programming that accompanies many Pride events. Past editions have included exhibitions at the Museum aan de Stroom (MAS), MoMu (the fashion museum), the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, and various gallery spaces across the city. The festival reflects Antwerp's position as one of Europe's most culturally ambitious cities of its size: the LGBTQ+ community here does not operate in isolation from the mainstream cultural life but is embedded within it. For LGBTQ+ travellers visiting Antwerp during the August Pride period, the Arts Festival adds a cultural dimension that makes the trip genuinely different from a standard Pride weekend.
