Underground on John Street sits adjacent to Speakeasy and completes the Gay Village cluster on this short section of street off the Merchant City. Like Speakeasy, Underground is a basement bar — the architecture of Merchant City's 18th-century commercial buildings lends itself naturally to basement venues — but it operates with a slightly more active music policy and a programming calendar of themed nights that gives it a regular audience beyond the walk-in trade. Regular events include underwear nights, drag performances and Pride week parties.
