Black Gay Pride Atlanta — produced by In The Life Atlanta — is the largest Black LGBTQ+ Pride gathering in the world, drawing hundreds of thousands to Atlanta over Labor Day weekend and cementing the city's status as the capital of Black queer America.
The event takes place over Labor Day weekend (late August / early September) and spans multiple venues across Midtown, Buckhead, and the broader Atlanta metro. The programming mix reflects the full range of Black LGBTQ+ culture: circuit-style dance parties at major clubs including Jungle Atlanta, day parties at hotel pools, community health fairs, religious services at affirming Black churches, comedy shows, spoken word, and panel discussions on issues facing Black LGBTQ+ communities.
Atlanta's demographics make Black Gay Pride here unlike any comparable event anywhere in the world. The city is the HBCU capital of America — Morehouse, Spelman, Clark Atlanta, and other historically Black colleges bring a young, educated, culturally influential population to the city — and the intersection of Black academic culture, Black church culture, and Black LGBTQ+ culture produces an event of extraordinary depth and vitality. The circuit parties are world-class; the community programming goes deeper than most Pride events anywhere. For Black LGBTQ+ travellers, Atlanta over Labor Day weekend is a pilgrimage.
