Denver's gay bar scene lives on Capitol Hill and South Broadway. The two areas are adjacent — Broadway runs south from the Colorado State Capitol building, and Cap Hill sits to the east of it. Between them they hold most of what Denver offers in terms of gay nightlife. The venues are not clustered as tightly as on a single European gay street, but they are close enough that most people walk between them without thinking about it.
The crowd at Denver's bars skews local. This is not a scene driven by weekend tourism — the regulars are Denver residents, many of them longtime Cap Hill residents. That gives the bars a different feel from tourist-heavy gay scenes. Less performance, more neighborhood. If you want the real scene rather than the postcard version, Denver delivers it.
South Broadway
South Broadway, locally called "SoBo," has the densest concentration of gay venues. The strip runs south from around 6th Avenue toward Iowa Avenue. You will find sports bars, dive bars, dance bars, and at least one leather bar within a few blocks of each other. On a Friday or Saturday night, the sidewalk between venues fills up. People hop between places over the course of an evening rather than staying at one bar all night.
The South Broadway scene also bleeds into the broader arts and DIY culture of the street — record shops, vintage stores, and independent restaurants sit alongside the bars. It is one of the more interesting gay bar strips in the US precisely because it is not exclusively gay.
Capitol Hill
Cap Hill proper, east of Broadway around Colfax and 13th Avenue, has a slightly more neighborhood feel. The bars here tend to be smaller and more regular-crowd oriented. Some of the older queer institutions of Denver are on these blocks. It is quieter than Broadway on most nights but worth knowing about if you want something more local and less bar-strip.

Excellent music great DJ. Best gay bar in town as I write this review. Play good hookup . definitely a good hookup spot.
- Lil Devils Lounge — Friendliest bar in town. The staff is so welcoming and friendly. The drinks are cheap and appropriately strong. The patio is beautiful year round, but spring is definitely the time to come. There are warmers and fire pits for the colder months. There is a good chance the owner will be around and socializing.

Practical Notes
Colorado's 2am last call applies everywhere. Unlike some states, there is no variance for specific venues — 2am is 2am. Plan accordingly: if you want a full night out, arriving at the bars before midnight makes sense.
Denver bars are generally casual. Dress codes at most venues are minimal. The leather bar is the exception — check the specific venue's dress code policy if you are visiting on a leather night.
Drinks are cheaper than the coasts. Expect $9-13 for a cocktail, $5-7 for a beer. Happy hour deals run until 7 or 8pm at several venues.
Altitude affects how fast alcohol hits. If you arrived in Denver recently from sea level, factor that in and drink more water than you normally would.
