The Pines Party at Fire Island Pines is one of the most iconic gatherings in gay American culture — a Labor Day Weekend event on the barrier island off Long Island that has been part of the gay summer calendar since the 1970s. Fire Island Pines itself is legendary: a car-free beach community that has been a gay sanctuary for generations of New Yorkers. The Pines Party brings the summer to its peak, with a tea dance at the Blue Whale, a harbour party, and the famous Morning Party that runs into the next day.
