Chelsea's 8th Avenue was the epicentre of Manhattan's gay bar scene in the 1990s and early 2000s; while the neighbourhood's dominance has shifted somewhat toward Hell's Kitchen, the 8th Avenue strip retains a cluster of gay bars that continue to serve the Chelsea community and its visitors.
