PrideFest St. Louis is the annual LGBTQ+ Pride celebration for Missouri's largest city, held each June at Soldier's Memorial and the surrounding downtown area. The event draws approximately 75,000 people over its run and has grown into one of the major Pride celebrations in the American Midwest. The downtown location — Soldier's Memorial is a Beaux-Arts military memorial building in the heart of St. Louis's civic centre, surrounded by the buildings of downtown and visible from the Gateway Arch grounds — gives PrideFest a setting of genuine civic grandeur. The festival includes multiple stages of live entertainment, community organisations, food and drink vendors, and the celebratory atmosphere of a city that has maintained a vibrant queer community through decades of urban change and political pressure. The Grove's gay bars — Just John, Attitudes, Rehab — all host associated Pride events throughout the weekend, and the neighbourhood is at its most energetic during Pride week. For visitors to St. Louis, June PrideFest is the optimal timing: the weather is warm but not yet at the oppressive humidity of July and August, the city's cultural institutions (including the free St. Louis Zoo, Art Museum, and the Gateway Arch) are all accessible, and the combination of Pride events, neighbourhood bar culture, and St. Louis's broader tourism offer makes for a full and satisfying visit.
