The Machines de l'Île is Nantes' most extraordinary attraction — a workshop and gallery where mechanical animals built on a Jules Verne / Leonardo da Vinci aesthetic come to life. The 12-metre Great Elephant carries up to 49 passengers through the Île de Nantes on scheduled walks (book well in advance); the Carousel of the Worlds of the Sea is a three-storey kinetic sculpture; the Gallery hosts the ongoing construction of new machines. Not an LGBTQ+ event, but an essential Nantes experience that draws visitors throughout the summer season. The Île de Nantes surrounding the Machines is also the site of the Pride festival each June.
