Elli Beach is the main public beach of Rhodes Town, a long crescent of sand and gravel directly below the New Town promenade and within walking distance of the Bar Street and town centre hotels. The beach operates as a standard public beach throughout most of its length, with sunbed rental, beach bars, and the range of services of a well-maintained resort beach. Toward the far end of the beach, away from the main concentration of tourist infrastructure, an informal gay-friendly section has developed over the years — not signed or formally designated but understood and used by LGBTQ+ visitors and the gay-friendly locals who are aware of the convention. The water at Elli Beach is clear and warm from May through October, and the beach offers a straightforward and pleasant day-at-the-beach option for visitors based in Rhodes Town. The combination of the medieval Old Town visible from the water and the clear Aegean sea makes Elli Beach one of the more scenically rewarding public beaches in the Greek islands.
