Montreal has one of the better gay sauna scenes in North America, with several venues operating to a high standard. The city's general openness and the density of the gay population in Le Village support a sauna circuit that is more developed than you would expect from a city of this size.

The range on offer

The Montreal sauna scene covers different formats. Stock Bar occupies a particular niche: it functions as a strip club during the day and evening, with go-go dancers and bar service, blending into sauna territory later in the night. It is not a conventional sauna and the atmosphere is closer to a nightclub for part of its operating hours. Campus Montreal is a more traditional sauna operation with the standard facilities: wet and dry areas, private rooms, social spaces.

The range means you can match the venue to what you are looking for. If you want a straightforward sauna with clear facilities and a predictable format, the conventional options deliver that. If you want something with more of a bar atmosphere alongside the sauna function, Stock Bar's hybrid model serves that.

Value and facilities

Montreal's saunas are good value by North American standards. Entry prices and locker rates are lower than in comparable American cities, and the facilities tend to be well-maintained. The combination of reasonable pricing and quality puts Montreal's sauna scene ahead of most comparable North American cities outside San Francisco or New York.

The venues are staffed professionally and English is not an issue. The clientele is predominantly local, with visitors mixing in during major event weekends.

When to go

Weekday afternoons attract a consistent crowd. Evenings from Thursday onward are busier. During Black and Blue in October and Divers/Cite in summer the saunas are noticeably busier across the board as the city's overall gay visitor numbers rise sharply.
