Gay Days Orlando is one of the largest unofficial LGBTQ+ events in the world — a multi-day gathering each June centred on Walt Disney World that draws more than 150,000 people from across the United States and internationally. The event began in 1991 as a grassroots act of queer visibility: LGBTQ+ visitors to Walt Disney World wore red shirts to identify each other, creating spontaneous community in the middle of America's most famous family theme park. From that simple gesture, Gay Days has grown into a full festival week with official hotel blocks, pool parties, nightclub events across Orlando, and the red-shirt park days at Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and other theme parks in the resort corridor. Disney does not officially sponsor Gay Days but has consistently welcomed LGBTQ+ visitors, and the event has unfolded without significant incident for more than three decades. The scale of the gathering — 150,000-plus people over the course of the week — makes Gay Days one of the largest LGBTQ+ events in the American calendar, comparable in scope to Southern Decadence in New Orleans or the Utah Pride Festival. The Parliament House Resort is the unofficial headquarters of Gay Days, hosting pool parties and events throughout the week. For LGBTQ+ visitors who want to combine theme park tourism with genuine queer community, Gay Days Orlando in June is the optimal occasion.
