Copenhagen has a functioning gay sauna scene, smaller in scale than some larger European capitals but with venues that are well-run and consistently operational. The city's general openness around sexuality and the long history of LGBT normalisation in Denmark means that these venues operate without friction.
What to expect
The saunas follow the standard format: entry with locker or private room options, sauna facilities, wet areas, and shared social spaces. Facilities are maintained to a decent standard. Staff are professional and English is not an issue.
Pricing reflects Copenhagen's general cost level. Entry for a locker session is expensive by the standards of southern European cities but broadly comparable to Stockholm or other Scandinavian capitals. Check individual venue websites for current rates.
When to go
Weekday afternoons attract the most consistent local crowd. Evenings and weekends are busier. During Copenhagen Pride in August the venues are noticeably busier across the board, as the general influx of visitors into the city flows through to every part of the scene.
The winter months are when saunas compete most directly with the bar scene for attention. Long dark evenings and cold temperatures push people indoors, and the saunas benefit from this.
The saunas
- Amigo Sauna — Copenhagen’s only gay sauna (although Body Bio has sauna facilities, it’s more of a cruise club). Amigo Sauna provides a place for gay Danes and visitors to sweat for more than 25 years. Spread out on 3 floors, features include a dry sauna, steam room, dark room, maze, cabins, video room and shop. The sauna is busiest on Friday and Saturday evening. Conveniently located, close to all the gay bars. <span style="color: #010101; font-family: OpenSans, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-s
Practical notes
Standard sauna conduct: phones away, towels used, respect for other guests. Lockers handle valuables. Basic toiletries are typically provided at the better venues; bring your own if you have specific needs. Condoms available at reception at any serious venue.
