Same-sex couples, gay groups, and LGBTQ+ visitors from across Australia and the world gather here without any sense of distinction from the broader beach culture — the informality of Australian beach life, where the only relevant social currency is being comfortable in your own skin, makes Cottesloe naturally inclusive. The Indiana Teahouse restaurant at the southern end of the beach is one of Perth's great outdoor dining experiences; the strip of cafés and restaurants on Marine Parade provides excellent options for post-swim refreshment. Cottesloe is served by the Transperth train network — the Fremantle line stops at Cottesloe station, a short walk from the beach — making it easily accessible without a car. During summer, the beach is busy from early morning to sunset; arriving early for swimming and staying for the famous Cottesloe sunset is the recommended approach. The beach faces directly west, and the sunsets over the Indian Ocean — the sky turning extraordinary shades of orange, pink, and purple — are among Perth's most celebrated natural experiences.
