The name means 'hole in the wall' in Croatian, referencing the small gap in the city walls through which you exit to reach the bar. Buža is not a gay bar, but it is a firmly gay-friendly one — the international tourist demographic that discovers it through Dubrovnik's tourist economy is diverse, and the bar's atmosphere of wonder at its own setting transcends social divisions. Arriving for sunset — when the limestone of the Old City walls glows golden and the sea turns deep blue below the platform — is one of the great experiences Dubrovnik offers any visitor, LGBTQ+ or otherwise. Come early in summer: the platform fills quickly and the views are worth the wait.
