Ristoro Antico is a bar-buffet in the old Triestine tradition — a combination of standing wine bar and buffet lunch counter that reflects the city's Austro-Hungarian heritage more than any Italian precedent. The bar has been consistently LGBTQ+-welcoming for many years and is cited by Trieste's gay community as the most comfortable mixed venue in the city centre. The clientele is characteristically Triestine: intellectuals, civil servants, retired professionals and a contingent of the younger arts crowd that clusters in this part of the city. Wine is excellent and local (Carso DOC, Friuli Isonzo). The buffet at lunchtime is one of the city's better value eating experiences. Open from morning through evening.
