Tribe Nashville occupies 1517 Church Street — literally next door to Play Dance Bar — and functions as the complementary half of Church Street's two-venue anchor. Where Play is the dance club, Tribe is the bar: cocktail-focused, patio-equipped, and calibrated for the kind of evening that prioritises conversation and socialising over dancing. The patio is one of the best outdoor drinking spaces in Nashville's gay scene — warm enough for comfortable outdoor sitting through much of the year, with a view of the Church Street strip and the steady flow of the neighbourhood's social life. The interior is well-designed in the upscale bar aesthetic that Nashville does well: quality fit-out, good lighting, a back bar with real range. The cocktail programme is taken more seriously than at most gay bars. The crowd at Tribe is slightly older and more local-regular than at Play — the bar functions as a neighbourhood local as much as a destination venue. Pre-gaming at Tribe before moving to Play next door is the standard Church Street evening format. The staff are embedded in the local LGBTQ+ community and are the best source of real-time information about what else is happening in Nashville on any given night.
