XS Bar on Rue Claudia has been a fixture of the Lyon gay scene since 2010. Owner Fred is one of the city's most recognised figures in the community, and the bar's Thursday "Apéro Bear" evening — free entry, bear-oriented but genuinely open to all — is the most consistently popular recurring gathering in the city. The bar's atmosphere is unpretentious and local: this is where Lyon's queer regulars come, not exclusively where tourists land. Open daily from around 5 pm to closing.
