Madam is the cocktail bar of Ruzafa's gay scene — the venue where the emphasis shifts from getting a drink to being given a drink that was considered. The interior is design-forward without being cold: a considered aesthetic that makes the bar photographable while remaining comfortable to sit in for a long evening. The cocktail list is creative in a way that reflects the neighbourhood's culinary ambition; Ruzafa has produced some of Valencia's better independent restaurants alongside its bars, and Madam fits this context. The crowd is mixed queer — gay men, lesbians, non-binary people, and the straight friends who come because the bar is simply good — with an age range that skews toward the mid-twenties to mid-forties demographic that makes up much of Ruzafa's resident population. Madam is not the bar where a night ends; it is the bar where the middle of the night happens — after Pub Black, before wherever the evening leads. The quality of the drinks and the comfort of the space make it an easy place to stay longer than planned.
