About this place Cairo Jazz Club

The Cairo Jazz Club is a live music bar and events venue in the Agouza neighbourhood ? adjacent to Zamalek, on the west bank of the Nile ? that has operated for over two decades and earned a reputation as one of Cairo's most cosmopolitan and artistically engaged nightlife venues. The club attracts a liberal crowd: expats, NGO workers, artists, journalists, young Egyptian professionals with international connections, and foreign visitors. Some LGBTQ+ presence has been reported by members of Cairo's very small and discreet community, who find in venues like this a social environment marginally more comfortable than average Cairo nightlife. It is essential to understand what this venue is and is not: it is NOT a gay venue. It has no LGBTQ+ identification, no LGBTQ+ programming, no rainbow anything. It is an expat-oriented music bar where the liberal crowd and cosmopolitan atmosphere create a relatively comfortable social environment. It should be used as exactly that ? a place to listen to music and socialise ? with absolute discretion about your LGBTQ+ identity. IMPORTANT: Egypt is a high-risk country for LGBTQ+ people. Police entrapment via Grindr is extensively documented. Delete all dating apps before arrival in Egypt.
