The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade — the Southern Hemisphere's largest LGBTQ+ event, held annually on the first Saturday of March. The parade runs along Oxford Street from Hyde Park to Moore Park, drawing over 300,000 spectators. Running continuously since 1978, when 53 participants were arrested in what became a founding moment of Australian LGBTQ+ activism.
