Bangkok is Southeast Asia's gay capital. The scene here is big, varied, and genuinely welcoming. You'll find most of the action in Silom, especially Soi 2 and Soi 4. Both are an easy walk from BTS and MRT stations.
Silom Soi 2 — The Club Strip
High-energy dance clubs, pop, drag shows, and crowds that mix Thai and international visitors. This is where Bangkok's party scene gets going.
- DJ Station (212/2 Silom Soi 2) — The biggest name on Soi 2. Pop and dance music, drag shows, a mixed Thai-Western crowd. It really fills up after midnight.
- G.O.D. (Guys on Display) (59 Silom 2/1) — House beats, long dance sessions. Cover usually includes two drinks.
- The Stranger Bar (76 Silom Road, Soi 4) — A stylish cocktail bar. Consistently rated the best on the strip for atmosphere.
- The Balcony (200 Soi Silom 14) — Outdoor terrace, cheap drinks, karaoke. Most evenings start here.
- Telephone Pub (Silom Soi 4) — A classic pub with outdoor seating. It's the original Soi 4 institution.
- Connections Bar (212/15 Silom Soi 4) — Good value, professional service, right next to The Stranger.
- Bearbie (2/F, 82 Silom Soi 4) — A bear bar that draws both Asian and Western clientele. Good atmosphere.
- Ramkhamhaeng/Lamsalee — A university area. Cheaper drinks, mostly local Thai crowds, and a different feel from tourist-facing Silom.
- Saphan Kwai & Sukhumvit — You'll find spots like Fake Club here, which mostly cater to young Thai clientele.
- Getting there: BTS Sala Daeng and MRT Silom stations both drop you within a 2-minute walk of Soi 2 and Soi 4.
- Hours: Most bars open at 6pm; clubs from 9pm. The scene runs until 2am (legal closing time), with some venues extending informally.
- Prices: Very reasonable by Western standards. Cocktails are typically 150–250 baht. Club entry is usually free or includes a drink.
Silom Soi 4 — The Bar Crawl
More relaxed than Soi 2, with outdoor seating, cocktails, and great people-watching. This is the classic spot for pre-club drinks or an early evening out.
Suriwong & Patpong — The Show Bars
This is the "more adventurous" end of Bangkok's scene: go-go bars, dancers, and explicit shows. Dream Boy (38/3-6 Soi Pratuchai, Suriwong Road) is the busiest. It's got a big dance stage and nightly shows at 10:30pm and 12:15am. Not for everyone, but it's a Bangkok institution.
