The Kolkata Rainbow Pride Walk has been going since 1999, making it one of India's oldest annual pride events and one of the very first in Asia. Kolkata's long tradition of intellectual and artistic radicalism has always made it a natural home for visible queer politics, and the walk carries that history with pride. Today it draws thousands through the city's characterful colonial-era streets in a march that feels both historic and urgently contemporary.
