Los Angeles has both outdoor and indoor cruising options, though the scale of the city means they are spread across different areas that require a car to connect. The indoor venues are in and around West Hollywood. The main outdoor spot with a long history is Griffith Park.
Griffith Park
Griffith Park is the large urban park in the hills north of Hollywood, covering over 4,000 acres. It has had a gay cruising history going back decades, particularly in certain areas of the park. The area around the old Bronson Caves was historically known for this, and the wooded trails and parking areas in the quieter sections of the park have been active for years.
The park is large and most of it is used by hikers, cyclists, and families during the day. The cruising activity concentrates in specific areas, particularly after dark. Rangers patrol the park and the level of activity and enforcement varies. The park is not primarily a cruising destination in the way Haulover Beach is for Miami or specific parks in other cities. It is a large public space where cruising happens in some areas, and knowing that helps set expectations.
Car access is how most people arrive. The Los Feliz Boulevard entrance and the parking areas inside the park are the usual starting points. After dark the park roads close to most vehicles, so parking near the boundary and walking in is the practical approach.
Indoor venues in WeHo
Several indoor cruising venues operate in and around West Hollywood. Some are dedicated sex clubs; others are saunas with cruising facilities as part of the format. The indoor options are more predictable and accessible than the outdoor scene.
Themed nights run on weekends: bear nights, leather nights, underwear nights. These can significantly change the crowd and the energy at any given venue. Following the venues on social media is the most reliable way to know what is happening on a specific night.
The WeHo scene
West Hollywood as a neighbourhood has some cruising activity connected to the bar scene, but nothing as formalised as dedicated outdoor cruising spots in other cities. The bar area late at night has the social-to-sexual continuum you find in any concentrated gay bar district. The indoor venues listed above are the structured option if you want something more direct.
Practical notes
For Griffith Park: be aware that this is a public space with rangers and other users. Outdoor cruising areas carry their own risks. Use common sense about timing and location.
For indoor venues: check current rules at each place regarding phones, dress codes, and what is permitted. Some run strict policies; others are more relaxed. Entry fees are standard for the format.
