Sydney has both indoor cruising venues and well-established outdoor spots. The indoor scene clusters in Darlinghurst near the Oxford Street strip. The outdoor options include the famous Obelisk Beach and a couple of other locations that have had a cruising reputation for decades.
Obelisk Beach
Obelisk Beach, located within Lane Cove National Park on the upper Middle Harbour, is Sydney's best-known nude beach and its most established outdoor cruising spot. The beach is clothing-optional and the cruising is an accepted part of the scene there, particularly in the bushland above the sand.
Getting there requires effort. The easiest route is by car to Davidson Park or the nearby access points, followed by a walk through the national park. There is no direct public transport to the beach itself, though buses run to Davidson and you can walk from there. Allow around 20-30 minutes from the bus stop.
The beach is busiest on warm weekday afternoons and weekend mornings. The park access points are free. Bring water, sunscreen, and whatever else you need as there are no facilities at the beach itself.
Centennial Park
Centennial Park in the eastern suburbs has a long-standing, if quieter, reputation for outdoor cruising. The park is large and has areas of bushland and tree cover, particularly towards the southern and eastern sections. Activity tends to happen in the early mornings and late afternoons. The park is popular with runners, cyclists, and families, so it is a more discreet environment than Obelisk Beach.
Indoor venues
The indoor cruising scene in Sydney runs out of dedicated clubs and venues, most of which are in Darlinghurst. These operate with entry fees and typically include dark rooms, mazes, and themed areas. Some have themed nights on weekends. Check social media for current programming as schedules change regularly.
Practical notes
For Obelisk Beach, check the weather before going. An overcast day significantly reduces the crowd. The walk in is pleasant but exposed in parts, so wear shoes you can walk in and bring a bag.
Indoor venues have their own rules about phones, lockers, and prohibited items. The rules are usually posted at the entrance or on the venue's website. Condoms and lube are available at most indoor venues.
