Split Pride has been held since 2011 in Croatia's second city and has faced more opposition than almost any other pride in the EU — early marches required heavy police protection against violent counter-protestors. The event has persisted and grown, and holding a pride march in the shadow of Diocletian's ancient palace is as visually striking as it is symbolically powerful. The Dalmatian coast's queer community deserves all the solidarity it gets.
