Copenhagen has a strong design culture and a well-developed independent retail scene. The city is known internationally for Scandinavian design and the shopping environment reflects this: high quality, considered, and not cheap. Within this broader context there are some LGBTQ-specific shops and a wider range of gay-friendly retail options.

LGBTQ-specific shops

Copenhagen has a small number of shops with explicitly LGBTQ+ stock: pride merchandise, adult items, books and publications with a queer focus, and clothing with a gay identity. These are not concentrated in one area but distributed around the city, consistent with how the broader gay scene is spread rather than geographically clustered.

Some of the gay bars also sell merchandise. This is often more reliable than standalone shops in terms of hours and stock consistency.

General Copenhagen shopping

For everything else, Copenhagen's general shopping offer is excellent. Stroget and the streets around it have the standard international brands. The Norrebro neighbourhood has independent clothing, books, and lifestyle shops that attract a younger, alternative crowd. Vesterbro, another neighbourhood worth knowing, has a mix of vintage and design shops. The Torvehallerne covered market near Norreport station is good for food and artisan products.

Design is the city's strongest suit. Danish homeware, furniture, and lifestyle products are genuinely worth buying here rather than trying to find them elsewhere, and the prices in the country of origin are lower than the international export premium you pay elsewhere.

The shops

    • Homoware — Gay lifestyle shop with sex toys, lubes (the largest collection in Scandinavia, apparently), condoms, underwear, fetish gear and lots of accessories. Homoware is also the only MisterB stockist in Denmark. Online purchase available.
    • Men's Shop — Gay shop in Copenhagen, selling DVD’s, lubes, condoms, clothing, toys and other items to keep you entertained. You can slo buy online if you don’t have time to pop in to the shop. Mens Shop also sells tickets for gay parties and festivals in the city.
