L'Opéra Bar takes its name from its position near the Opéra Comédie theatre on the southern edge of the Écusson. It is one of the more understated entries in Montpellier's gay bar scene: open daily from the afternoon, unhurried in character, and popular with a broadly mixed gay and gay-friendly crowd that spans ages. The cocktail list is above average for the price point. It is less student-dominated than Café de la Mer and less focused on pre-clubbing than L'Azyl, which makes it a useful middle option for visitors who want a relaxed evening drink without the louder bar atmosphere. Busiest Thursday to Saturday.
