Nice's gay beach is not a designated official zone but an informal gathering that has crystallised over decades at the eastern end of the Promenade des Anglais, near the Castel Plage private beach concession and the foot of Castle Hill (Colline du Château). The pebbles here — Nice has no sand beaches — are where LGBTQ+ visitors and locals spread their towels through the summer season, creating an easygoing, sociable atmosphere. The Castel Plage beach club nearby offers sunloungers, a restaurant and changing facilities for those who prefer not to use the public beach. The location is superb: the castle hill rises directly behind, the old port is a short walk east, and the Promenade stretches westward. Most active May through September; peak season July and August.
