Gay Cruising in Madrid: Casa de Campo and Beyond

Madrid has an established outdoor cruising scene that has operated openly for years. The main location is Casa de Campo. This is not a secret and it is not underground. It is a large, well-known cruising park that locals use regularly.

Casa de Campo

Casa de Campo is a vast park on the western edge of Madrid, roughly 1,700 hectares. The cruising area is not the whole park. It concentrates around the Lago area, accessible by metro on line 10 (Lago or Batán stations), and in the wooded sections along the main paths leading from that area.

It operates primarily at night, from late evening through to early morning. Activity peaks after midnight and continues until dawn on weekends. The site is large enough that you will walk before you find much if you do not know the layout. Go with a general sense of direction toward the lake and the wooded paths south and west of it.

Practical reality: it is a park. Bring a torch if you have one. Be aware of your surroundings. The area has a long history and locals know it well, which means the crowd tends to be predominantly Spanish men who know what they are doing. Visitors are not unusual but you are not in a tourist venue either.

Police presence varies. There have been periods of increased enforcement and periods of being left alone. Check recent local advice before going. The Spanish LGBTQ+ organisation COGAM in Madrid sometimes has current information.

Be safe. Carry what you need. Do not leave valuables visible anywhere.

Indoor Cruising

Several of the saunas in Chueca have darkroom facilities that function as indoor cruising spaces, available as part of standard sauna entry. If outdoor cruising is not what you are looking for, or the weather is not cooperating, the saunas are the alternative.

Some sex shops on Calle Pelayo have video cabin areas. These are clearly marked.

Getting to Casa de Campo

Metro line 10, Lago station. About 20-25 minutes from Chueca (change at Tribunal or take line 5 to Callao, then walk to line 10 at Príncipe Pío). Alternatively, taxi to Parque de Atracciones and walk in from there. At 2am a Cabify is the most practical option.

Getting back: taxis and Cabify work in the park. The metro stops around 1:30am on weekdays and 2:30am on weekends. Plan accordingly.

The Scene Overall

Madrid's cruising culture is part of a broader gay scene that does not feel guilty about sex or the spaces built around it. The saunas operate openly. The sex shops are on the main street. Casa de Campo has been there for decades. None of this is shameful or hidden, which means the people using these spaces tend to be relaxed rather than furtive. That changes the atmosphere considerably.
