Athens has some LGBT-specific retail, mostly concentrated in and around Gazi. The scene is smaller than in cities like Berlin or Amsterdam but there are options, and the general shopping environment in Athens — cheap, varied, with a strong local market culture — fills in the gaps for most things visitors actually need.
What is in Gazi
A handful of shops in and around the Gazi strip carry pride merchandise, branded clothing, and some adult items. These tend to be small and the stock varies. Hours can be inconsistent — worth checking before going out of your way. Some bars also sell merchandise, which is easier to predict in terms of availability.
If you are looking for something specific and cannot find it in Gazi, asking at a bar or sauna is the most reliable shortcut. People who work in the scene know what is currently open and stocked.
General Athens shopping
Athens is good for shopping in ways that do not relate specifically to gay retail. The Monastiraki flea market, a short walk from Gazi, has everything from vintage clothing to antiques to tourist items at prices well below what you would pay in comparable western European cities. Ermou Street has the standard high-street brands. For everyday items — clothing, cosmetics, pharmacy — Athens is significantly cheaper than London, Berlin, or Paris.
