Silom Soi 2 and Soi 4
Bangkok's gay scene is concentrated in two side streets off Silom Road: Soi 2 and Soi 4. Both are walkable from Sala Daeng BTS station and both are busy most nights of the week, not just weekends. The area is compact enough that you can visit several venues in one evening without hailing a cab.
Soi 4 tends to have the more relaxed bar atmosphere. Soi 2 has more of a club-adjacent energy. In between and on the main road there are a few more scattered options. The whole strip is easy to walk end to end in ten minutes.
There is also the go-go bar strip nearby, sometimes called Soi Twilight or Soi Pratuchai, which runs parallel to the Silom scene. Go-go bars are a specific format: you sit, you order drinks, performers dance on a small stage, and individual performers can be bought out for a fee. It is legal, it is regulated in the loose sense that most things in Bangkok are regulated, and it is a very different atmosphere from a regular bar. Neither better nor worse — just different. Many visitors are curious about it, and there is nothing wrong with walking in and having a look.
Legal situation
Thailand is not legally equal on paper. Same-sex marriage was not recognized during most of this period, though legislation was under ongoing discussion and in 2024 parliament voted to pass a bill that moved toward recognition. In practice, Thai society is considerably more tolerant than the legal framework suggests. Public affection between men is commonplace in the Silom area. The police leave the scene alone. There is no history of raids or harassment in the way that exists in other parts of Asia. The combination of legal ambiguity and social tolerance is distinctly Thai and worth understanding before you arrive.
Babylon Bangkok
Babylon is in a class of its own. It is not just a sauna — it is a full resort-style complex with a pool, steam rooms, dry saunas, a gym, hotel rooms you can book, and grounds you can spend a full afternoon in. It is well outside the Silom area (near Sathorn), which means a Grab ride to get there, but it is worth the detour. Pricing is cheap by any Western measure. Nothing else in Bangkok quite matches the scale of it.

- Bangkok Pride Festival 2026 — 29 May 2026
- Songkran gCircuit Bangkok 2026 — Date TBA
- Cost: Bangkok is cheap. Beers in bars run 80-150 baht (roughly 2-4 USD). Sauna entry is often 200-400 baht. Food is extremely cheap if you eat local. You can live well on a very modest daily budget.
- Getting there: The BTS Skytrain Silom line to Sala Daeng station puts you right at the entrance of the gay area. It is the easiest way in from most parts of Bangkok. The MRT also has a Silom stop nearby.
- Taxis: Use Grab rather than hailing taxis on the street. It is cheaper, you get a metered price upfront, and you avoid drivers who will insist on a flat rate that is always higher. The app works reliably across Bangkok.
- Best time to visit: November to February is the cool season. Temperatures are around 25-30C, low humidity, and no rain. March onwards gets hotter and more humid. The rainy season (June to October) is manageable but you will get wet. The cool season is genuinely pleasant by Thai standards.
- Nightlife timing: Things get going late. Bars fill from around 10pm and stay busy until 2am or later. The BTS stops running around midnight, so late nights mean a Grab home.

Hotels
Staying in the Silom area puts you within walking distance of everything. If you want something quieter, Sathorn and Bangrak have decent mid-range options and are still close by. Sukhumvit is a longer Grab ride but is popular for its own nightlife and access to the BTS.
Events
Bangkok does not have a single annual Pride in the traditional sense, though events have grown in recent years and some festival-format gatherings have appeared. Check current listings as the scene shifts year to year.
