Duval Street and the surrounding Old Town streets have a mix of retail that reflects the island's character: part tourist kitsch, part genuine local commerce, with gay-specific shops mixed in throughout. Key West has a long enough history as a gay destination that the merchandise reflects it.

T-shirts and Key West kitsch

There is a lot of it. Duval Street has T-shirt shops, souvenir stores, and gift shops in significant numbers. The quality varies widely. Some sell the usual tourist merchandise with a Key West logo. Others carry specifically gay-themed merchandise, pride flags, and Key West-branded items that are a step above generic souvenirs. If you are looking for a memento that acknowledges where you actually are rather than a generic Florida beach town, they exist but you need to walk past the less interesting options to find them.

Gay-specific retail

Several shops on and near Duval are explicitly gay-owned or carry gay-specific merchandise. The variety is broader during event weeks — pop-up stalls and additional vendors appear during Fantasy Fest and Bear Week with merchandise targeted at those specific crowds. Year-round, the selection is more modest but still present.

Beyond souvenirs

Key West has a small but genuine independent retail scene away from the souvenir shops. Local art galleries, bookshops, and craft stores are scattered through Old Town. The island has attracted artists for a long time, and that shows in some of what is available. Worth exploring the side streets off Duval if you want something other than T-shirts.

Practical notes

Old Town shopping is walkable. Most retail is open from mid-morning through the evening. Hours extend later during event weeks. Prices are tourist-area prices — not extreme, but not bargain shopping either.
