Rio de Janeiro Pride — the Parada do Orgulho LGBT+ do Rio de Janeiro — is held annually in September or October along the Avenida Atlântica seafront of Copacabana beach, drawing approximately half a million participants and spectators. The event was founded with the support of Grupo Arco-Íris in the late 1990s and has grown into one of the major Pride events of Latin America. The Copacabana setting is spectacular: the parade route along the seafront avenue puts the march between the famous curve of Copacabana's beachfront buildings and the Atlantic Ocean, with the Christ the Redeemer statue visible on Corcovado in the distance. The Rio Pride atmosphere is characteristically Carioca — warm, musical, visually extraordinary, and less intense than the São Paulo mega-event. Sound trucks line the seafront, performers occupy stages at key points along the route, and the surrounding blocks of Copacabana fill with festivity. For visitors who want a Pride experience shaped by Rio's beach culture and the specific character of Carioca social life, the September/October timing aligns well with the end of the southern hemisphere winter and the beginning of spring.
