Medellín's gay bar scene is centered in El Poblado and has grown significantly over the past decade as the neighborhood's expat population and international visitor numbers have increased. The venues range from small local bars to mid-sized clubs with regular DJ nights. Prices are very low by European or North American standards.
El Poblado
The Provenza sector of El Poblado, and the streets around Parque El Poblado, have the highest concentration of gay-friendly bars. These are not exclusively gay venues in most cases — the neighborhood's general culture means many bars are broadly welcoming and attract a mixed crowd. Explicitly gay venues do exist and are listed below.
The Provenza area in particular has a good concentration of bars and restaurants on adjacent streets, making an evening of moving between venues easy on foot. The neighborhood's layout — generally low-rise, walkable, well-lit on the main streets — makes it comfortable to navigate.
Laureles
The Laureles neighborhood, on the western side of the city, has a growing bar and restaurant scene with some gay-friendly venues. It is more residential and local in character than El Poblado and attracts a Colombian rather than expat-heavy crowd. Worth knowing if you want to explore beyond the main tourist area.
Timing
Medellín's nightlife follows the Colombian late pattern. Bars warm up from 9 or 10pm; clubs do not fill until midnight or later. The warm evenings (relative to Bogotá) make outdoor bar terrace culture more viable here — several El Poblado venues have outdoor areas that are pleasant well into the night.

Practical notes
Prices are very low. The altitude here (1,500m) is lower than Bogotá and Mexico City, but alcohol does still hit slightly harder than at sea level — pace yourself if you have just arrived. Use Uber to get home.
