The Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF) is Australia's longest-running queer film festival, held annually in March at ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) in Federation Square and other Melbourne venues. Founded in 1991, MQFF presents a curated programme of Australian and international LGBTQ+ cinema across feature films, short films, documentaries, and special events. The festival's positioning at ACMI — Melbourne's dedicated screen culture institution in the heart of the CBD — reflects the respect in which it is held by both the LGBTQ+ community and the broader cultural sector. MQFF draws an audience of approximately 15,000-20,000 people across its programme and has been a platform for LGBTQ+ filmmakers from Australia and internationally for over three decades.
