Silom Soi 2 and Soi 4
Bangkok's gay scene lives on two side streets off Silom Road: Soi 2 and Soi 4. Both are a short walk from Sala Daeng BTS station and get busy most nights, not just weekends. The area's small enough that you can hit several spots in an evening without a cab.
Soi 4 feels like a relaxed bar street. Soi 2 has more of a club vibe. There are a few more scattered places in between and on the main road. The whole strip takes ten minutes to walk end to end.
The go-go bar strip, sometimes called Soi Twilight or Soi Pratuchai, runs parallel to the Silom scene. Go-go bars work like this: you sit, order drinks, performers dance on a small stage, and you can pay to take individual performers out. It's legal, regulated in the loose way most things in Bangkok are, and it's a completely different atmosphere from a regular bar. Neither better nor worse—just different. Lots of visitors are curious, and there's no harm in walking in for a look.
Legal situation
Thailand isn't legally equal on paper. For most of this period, same-sex marriage wasn't recognized, though a bill moving toward recognition passed parliament in 2024. In practice, Thai society is much more tolerant than the laws suggest. Public affection between men is common in Silom. The police leave the scene alone. There's no history of raids or harassment like you see in other parts of Asia. This mix of legal ambiguity and social tolerance is uniquely Thai, and it's good to understand before you arrive.
Babylon Bangkok
Babylon is in a league of its own. It's not just a sauna; it's a full resort-style complex with a pool, steam rooms, dry saunas, a gym, bookable hotel rooms, and grounds you can spend a whole afternoon in. It's outside Silom (near Sathorn), so you'll need a Grab ride to get there, but it's worth the detour. Prices are cheap by any Western standard. Nothing else in Bangkok comes close to its scale.

- Bangkok Pride Festival 2026 — 29 May 2026
- Songkran gCircuit Bangkok 2026 — Date TBA
- Cost: Bangkok is cheap. Beers in bars run 80-150 baht (about 2-4 USD). Sauna entry is often 200-400 baht. Food is very cheap if you eat local. You can live well on a modest daily budget.
- Getting there: The BTS Skytrain Silom line to Sala Daeng station drops you right at the gay area's entrance. It's the easiest way in from most of Bangkok. The MRT also has a Silom stop nearby.
- Taxis: Use Grab instead of hailing taxis on the street. It's cheaper, you get a metered price upfront, and you avoid drivers who insist on a higher flat rate. The app works reliably across Bangkok.
- Best time to visit: November to February is the cool season. Temperatures are around 25-30C, humidity is low, and there's no rain. March onwards gets hotter and more humid. The rainy season (June to October) is manageable but you'll get wet. The cool season is genuinely pleasant by Thai standards.
- Nightlife timing: Things start late. Bars fill from around 10pm and stay busy until 2am or later. The BTS stops around midnight, so late nights mean a Grab home.

Hotels
Staying in Silom puts you within walking distance of everything. If you want something quieter, Sathorn and Bangrak have good mid-range options and are still close. Sukhumvit is a longer Grab ride but is popular for its own nightlife and BTS access.
Events
Bangkok doesn't have one traditional annual Pride, though events have grown recently, and some festival-format gatherings have started. Check current listings; the scene changes year to year.
