About this place Bar de la Marine

Bar de la Marine is one of Marseille's most photographed bars, located on the Quai de Rive Neuve overlooking the Old Port. Made famous by Marcel Pagnol's interwar trilogy, it has long been a meeting point for Marseille's bohemian and queer communities. The terrace fills at sunset with a mixed, gay-friendly crowd; the inside retains its Art Deco fittings. Not exclusively gay but deeply part of Marseille's LGBTQ+ social fabric.

We stopped here for a drink after visiting the Christmas market by the old port. It was surprisingly quiet considering it's location but it was a Monday night and it was raining. The young woman behind the bar was very friendly and there was a good choice of beer. The interior was cosy, charming, and had many interesting old pictures of the bar and the port. We really enjoyed our visit.

Great atmosphere and the service was great. The Royale Pizza was good.

Had lunch outside in the patio under the umbrellas looking out into the harbor with all the boats. Had the moules frites which were very good. The service was very pleasant and the overall experience was enjoyable. This is a bar so one should not expect 5-star service. The server never rushed me, or anyone, which made the meal so much more enjoyable. Yet, he was responsive and attentive enough to serve you reasonably quick. In true French fashion you could take your time to eat and pay.

Wonderful café bar on the harbor waterfront! One of the few places serving breakfast in the town center. The food was delicious and fresh. Service was quick, helpful, and friendly. Would have had breakfast here everyday if I’d have discovered it sooner!

Visited because we love Love Actually. The staff are brilliant. Very personable, friendly and attentive. Had the burger. Very, very tasty. Cooked as requested, juicy, meaty no fat or gristle. Chocolate mouse was a rich, firm mousse. Shame more people not in. Don't pass by, pop in. We will certainly be back. We will tell you when and thank you for the offer of meeting Colin, that would be great.
