Parco Virgiliano sits at the western tip of the Posillipo promontory — 18 hectares of public park with 360-degree views of the Bay of Naples: Vesuvius, Capri, Ischia and the Campi Flegrei. The park takes its name from the tomb of Virgil (actually the tomb of an unknown Roman), which is located near the entrance. It is Naples' best-known outdoor cruising area, active particularly on weekend afternoons and summer evenings in the more wooded sections away from the main viewpoint terraces. The combination of extraordinary landscape and cruising activity produces one of the more scenically spectacular outdoor gay environments in Italy. Accessible by taxi from Chiaia in about 15 minutes, or by bus (line 140) from Piazza Vittoria.
