Istanbul's LGBT Pride Week was once one of the Middle East and Mediterranean's biggest pride events, drawing tens of thousands to Taksim Square before authorities banned it in 2015. Despite the ban, the community continues to attempt to gather each June, and the event's suppression has drawn global media attention and international solidarity.
