The Queen Shilling is Bristol's most established gay bar — named with the kind of irreverent double meaning that British gay culture specialises in (the traditional slang term for sexual favours alongside the Royal reference). The bar has been on Frogmore Street for many years and serves as the most reliably consistent LGBTQ+ social space in a city whose scene has otherwise changed significantly. Drag nights on Thursdays and Saturdays, DJ sets on Fridays, a relaxed pub format the rest of the week. The crowd is mixed across age, gender and sexuality — representative of Bristol's broadly inclusive LGBTQ+ scene. The city centre location is accessible on foot from Temple Meads station (15 minutes) or from the Harbourside.
