Miami's cruising scene runs on two tracks: outdoor spaces that take advantage of the city's climate and geography, and indoor venues for year-round options. The outdoor scene is more active during the cooler winter months when the weather is actually pleasant to be outside.
Haulover Beach
Haulover Beach is a barrier island park about 15 minutes north of South Beach, accessible by car or the 120 bus from Bal Harbour. The northern end of the beach is a designated clothing-optional area and has been popular with the gay community for years. It is a legitimate beach with lifeguards, parking, and facilities. The clothing-optional section runs for a reasonable stretch and the gay section concentrates toward the north end of that.
It is an outdoor space in full sun with families, straight couples, and gay men all using it. The cruising element exists at the quieter end of the designated area, in the dunes and scrub north of the main beach. Be aware of your surroundings and of what is public versus what is not.
Lummus Park and South Beach
Lummus Park is the strip of park between Ocean Drive and the beach in South Beach, running from roughly 5th to 15th Street. It is a social gathering spot with gay men using the benches, volleyball courts, and beach access throughout the day, particularly on weekends. The park is not a formal cruising area but it functions as a meet-up space. The beach fronting the park in the 12th to 14th Street zone is where the gay beach crowd concentrates.
Indoor venues
The sauna circuit in Miami and Fort Lauderdale handles the indoor cruising scene. Several of the venues listed in the saunas section have dedicated cruising areas as part of their facilities. Some standalone sex clubs also operate in the area, particularly around event weekends.
Practical notes
For outdoor spaces: South Florida has strong sun even in winter. Sun protection matters even if you are not planning to be out long. Haulover Beach requires a car or bus — it is not walkable from South Beach. Parking at Haulover costs a few dollars.
For indoor venues: rules vary. Some ask you to leave phones at reception. Towels and entry pricing follow the same format as the saunas. Check each venue's current rules before visiting.
