Fringe World Festival is Perth's annual arts festival, held each January and February across venues throughout the city and Northbridge, and consistently one of the largest fringe festivals in the world by attendance. The festival's LGBTQ+ programming is substantial — queer cabaret, drag, theatre, comedy, circus, and performance art that reflects the full breadth of contemporary queer arts practice. Northbridge's entertainment venues become Fringe hubs, and the LGBTQ+ programming is distributed across multiple sites in the precinct, making it easy to incorporate into a broader evening out in Perth's gay heartland.
Fringe World's queer programme has grown in recent years as the festival has recognised the depth of Perth's LGBTQ+ arts community and the appetite of Perth audiences for challenging, creative, and entertaining queer performance. The festival attracts interstate and international artists alongside the considerable local talent that Perth's relative isolation has encouraged to develop self-sufficiently. For LGBTQ+ visitors to Perth in January or February, Fringe World provides extraordinary cultural programming alongside the city's beaches, wine regions, and nightlife.
