Chennai Pride marches through the Tamil Nadu capital each June, representing a queer community that has been organising and advocating for decades in one of India's major cultural cities. Tamil Nadu has been surprisingly progressive on transgender rights at the state level, and that context gives Chennai Pride a distinctive character — it's a march with deep roots in local activist history and a strong presence of transgender and hijra communities.
